A new survey of ports suggests that, despite regulatory changes and geopolitical challenges, a majority remain committed to long-term decarbonisation goals.
The latest edition of the IAPH World Ports Tracker 2026 shows more than half of responding ports have publicly declared carbon neutrality targets ahead of 2050, while investment in infrastructure for low- and zero-carbon marine fuels has continued to grow. LNG bunkering is now used in around one-third of surveyed ports.
The report, which gives an overview of sustainability and risks in the global ports sector, covers feedback from ports handling more than 8.6 billion tonnes of maritime cargo. It also includes data on container port productivity and liner connectivity from UN Trade and Development, MDS Transmodal and S&P Global.
