Canadian FIDI Affiliate AMJ has issued guidance to help international partners understand Canada’s Advance Commercial Information (ACI) rules.
The ACI rules, which require shipment information to be submitted electronically before cargo departs on its journey to Canada, were introduced by the Canada Border Services Agency several years ago. For groupage shipments, they allow customs authorities to identify and process each consignment within a consolidated container before its arrival.
AMJ Director Christina McCarte said the company wanted to inform its network because groupage shipments have increased and some of its new partners have been penalised as a result of being unaware of the regulations.
The guidance document aims to help businesses avoid delays, penalties and additional costs when shipping consolidated household goods containers to Canada.
