United Airlines raises prices as Middle East conflict hits airlines

29th April 2026

United Airlines has announced it will charge customers an assessed market disruption fee from May 1 to offset increases in jet fuel and other operating expenses caused by the war in Iran.

According to freight news outlet FreightWaves, the company’s cargo division, United Cargo, last week advised its customers of the surcharge, which will vary according to region. The company said customers should contact their sales representatives for the applicable rates.

Carriers of international sea freight have already increased their prices, introducing similar surcharges soon after the escalation of conflict on February 28. The price of jet fuel has nearly doubled since then. The US Postal Service will impose an 8 per cent surcharge to cover increased transport costs from May 3.
