FIDI alerts Affiliates to Middle East crisis impact

31st March 2026

FIDI Global Alliance has warned its Affiliates about the impact of the escalating conflict in the Middle East on the international moving and relocation business.

In the open letter to its membership issued on 30 March 2026, FIDI Secretary General Jesse van Sas said instability in key areas, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, is leading to services being suspended or rerouted, causing delays, price rises and significantly reduced reliability.

‘This situation also highlights a broader trend that continues to shape our sector: global mobility and logistics operations are increasingly exposed to geopolitical developments and external shocks,’ he said. ‘As a result, cost volatility and operational disruption are no longer exceptional events, but factors that need to be anticipated and managed as part of normal business planning.’

Van Sas added that Affiliates should communicate the current challenges to their clients and set ‘realistic expectations regarding timing, routing and potential cost implications’.

Alongside the letter, FIDI has released an infographic of key statistics about shipping availability and prices since the latest conflict began on February 28.
