Iran unrest raises travel concerns for Middle East

21st January 2026

Global immigration law firm Fragomen has issued an update on travel to Iran warning that growing civil unrest has increased safety and travel concerns for businesses and individuals operating in the region.

The company said the situation could potentially escalate quickly within the country and more widely across the Middle East, presenting a higher risk for international assignees, business travellers and their families.

Fragomen advised individuals from outside Iran working in the country to register their presence with their embassies and to monitor official communications and travel advice from their governments closely.

The firm also urged companies to confirm the safety of all employees and dependants across the Middle East, ensure employee data is up to date, review travel and assignment plans against current – and potentially fast-changing – advice, ensure they have contingency plans, and maintain regular communication with staff.

Fragomen said it is monitoring developments and will continue to give updates as the situation evolves.
