NE W A FFI L I ATE WALKING THE QUALITY WALK With a quarter of a centurys moving experience under its belt, Vancouver-based Quality Move Management Inc. knows what it takes to provide a first-class service to a range of corporate, private and RMC customers. FIDI Focus speaks to International Manager Tyler Fearn TYLER FEARN, INTERNATIONAL MANAGER, QUALITY MOVE MANAGEMENT FF: What are the characteristics of your local market? TF: Vancouver is often viewed as one of the best cities in the world. Part of the draw comes from its natural beauty, surrounded by mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The city welcomes more than 11 million visitors annually as tourism contributes approximately $4.8bn to the local economy. As a culturally diverse city, it offers a very robust and vibrant culinary scene. For many years, Vancouver has been home to engineering, mining and financial firms. In recent years, its lure has attracted the attention of high-end fashion design companies and a rapidly growing tech sector. FF: How has your countrys moving industry evolved over the past 10 years? TF: Technology has played a large part in the evolution of the industry, from virtual surveys to shipment tracking and driver electronic logging devices. With millennials entering the workforce, we have seen a shift to small shipment programmes and lump-sum allowances. FF: What are your biggest opportunities for growth? TF: We continue to work with our corporate customers, private consumers and RMC companies with a vision of being the No 1 choice for people and companies on the move. With this focus, we see an opportunity for organic growth. We are also very aware of the consolidation occurring in the industry, and feel we will naturally grow as that process plays itself out. FF: What is your companys business ethos? TF: At QMM, we understand the difference between talking the talk and walking the walk. This is why we have outlined our shared values in a way we can demonstrate them in our practices, as follows: One of the Quality Move Management Inc. fleet 68 FF297 JunJul20 pp68-69 New Affiliate.indd 68 l Customer service provide an outstanding experience l Integrity and respect pride in doing the right thing l Excellence deliver first-class service always l Safety is top of mind at every turn l Community-minded consciously make a positive impact in the communities we serve l Teamwork we ease the load for each other FF: What are your main strengths as an organisation? TF: Our strength definitely lies in our people. Our reputation is such that we have been able to attract the top drivers in the country to QMM. On top of this, we have a strong management focus and a culture that is rooted in excellence. This helps us deliver on our mandate of providing a premium moving experience. FF: Why did you decide to join FIDI? TF: QMM understands that our business is all about creating a positive, delightful experience for our customer. Knowing that FIDI affiliation and its network of providers helps set and maintain the industry best practices and is consistently adhering to the highest levels of compliance and quality, aligned well with our companys objectives. FF: How did you find the FAIM process? TF: Thankfully, having been operational in the moving industry for 25 years, QMM has had a wealth of experience with international shipping. While many of the requirements were already in practice, they were not always documented. I think the biggest challenge was creating all the documentation to support how we were doing business. FF: Are you looking forward to an active role in FIDI? TF: Yes, were certainly looking forward to connecting with the other Affiliates and enhancing the social fabric of our community. FF: What are the future challenges for your business? TF: We foresee industry challenges as opposed to challenges that are specific to QMM. Some of these include the ageing driver population, attracting top talent in a competitive talent market, smaller shipment sizes, and lower storage requirements/revenue. WW W. F I D I FOC U S .
