3:56 PM MARK DEARBORN O B I TUARI E S Just months after the Arpin Group lost Bob Sullivan, the company is saddened to share the news of another death that of Mark Dearborn, Vice President of Global Accounts I t is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we share with you the loss of a valued colleague and friend Mark Dearborn, Vice President of Global Accounts for Arpin International Group. Mark was involved in a serious road accident on 17 March and died from his injuries. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Alexie, and was proud of her accomplishments. Our thoughts and prayers are with Alexie and all his family at this time. Mark, who joined Arpin in 2000, had more than 30 years experience the moving and storage industry, including in many executive roles, which involved serving on Arpins Management Committee. A talented individual with a personable nature, Mark proudly represented Arpin in many domestic and international organisations, which afforded him the opportunity to forge many friendships throughout the world. While he was a capable business professional, and distinguished himself through his philanthropic activities. Among his many achievements, Mark was a founding member of the Arpin Charitable Fund (operating as Arpin Strong) and served as its President. The organisation was formed in 2013 in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing to show support for the relief efforts. Under Marks leadership, it has raised more than US$315,000 for charity and helped hundreds of worthy causes. Marks career at Arpin also exposed him to many cultures and gave him ample opportunity to make a difference to the wellbeing of people throughout the world. Most recently, he had returned from Panama City, where he helped construct four houses for the homeless in the two days before the LACMA conference. Mark also served as a member of the FIDI Charity Committee and was on the board of directors of Marguerites Place, a transitional housing programme for women and children in crisis. As well as being a global business professional and philanthropist, Mark was an accomplished athlete. He played hockey for Southeastern Mass University (now UMass Dartmouth) and went on to play minor league in the US for two years, as well as professionally in France and Austria. Mark was also an avid runner and participated in the annual Run to Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation/Massachusetts General Hospital Program. In addition, he was a member of I Run Four, with which he ran to raise awareness of mitochondrial disease. Mark was a man of honourable character, who cared deeply for the community and led by example. We will all miss a great man and friend. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marks name to a fund established for his daughter Alexies education: www.gofundme.com/ lexie039s-fund Marks career at Arpin exposed him to many cultures and gave him ample opportunity to make a difference to the wellbeing of people throughout the world SHIRLEY MARX Shirley Marx, who helped to found New World Van Lines with her husband of 43 years, Edward Marx, died peacefully on 25 March in Las Vegas, Nevada, US, aged 88. While raising five sons and two daughters, Shirley and Edward built the business up, after buying Edwards fathers company. After Edwards death in 1995, Shirley took over the leadership of the growing company. She owned, operated and was Chairman of the Board WW W. F I D I. She remained active in the business and retained her love for the moving industry, clients and customers that she always viewed as her privilege to serve. Shirley was active in the Womens Business Enterprise National Council, receiving its Friend of Child Care Award and being presented with its Hedy M Ratner and S Carol Douglas Legacy Award (Chicago Chapter). Other testaments to her accomplishments included the Illinois Movers and Warehousemens Associations Orin C Hutchcraft Quality Service Award for her contributions to the moving and storage industry. The then Chicago Mayor Richard Daley praised her leadership and unwavering support in promoting the development and retention of industrial firms in Chicago. Shirley founded and funded the Edward M Marx Foundation in honour of her late husband. The foundation donates to a wide variety of charitable causes including a Veterans Memorial at North Park Village, honouring those who have served in the US Armed Services. Through hard work and integrity, New World Van Lines is known throughout the industry for providing personal moving services to corporate transferees and has just celebrated its 100th anniversary as a family-owned and operated business. 93 10/05/2019 16:59
