F E ATU RE MOVING ON UP! With Indonesia expected to be the fourth-largest world economy by 2030, Murugesu Rajah, General Manager of PT. Kellys Express believes the futures bright MURUGESU RAJAH, GENERAL MANAGER OF PT. KELLYS EXPRESS FF: What are the key characteristics of your local market? MR: Indonesia is a country that is still growing up. The governments decisions at this time are very consumer-orientated. For us, there is a continuous needfor foreign talent, which has been recognised by thepresident. The country is predicted to maintain a growth rate of between five and six per cent annually, and analysts predict it will be the fourth-largest economy in the world by 2030. FF: How has the countrys moving industry evolved over the past decade or so? MR: In the past five years, the export of household goods has experienced a slump followed by a resurgence. In 2015-2017, a slump in the oil and gas industry, and associated support sectors, affected the country. This was mainly caused by a slump in oil prices and extravagant salaries and lifestyles, which affected the local labour market. However, we have seen an uptick in other manufacturing industries in locations outside of the business capitals such as the provinces and the outer regions between 2016 and 2018, with an increase in destination service provider services in 2018. The bottom line is that there has been a marginal drop say about five to eight per cent net in turnover globally, except that the Japanese movements have held steady over the past five to six years; we have handled 90 per cent of Japanese expatriate relocations since 2010.
