FIDI NEWS Taking relocation to new heights: the Leaders in Moving (LiM) seminar looks at the future of the moving and relocation industry LEADING THE WAY The Axalp resort in Switzerland was the setting for FIDIs annual Leaders in Moving (LiM) seminar, which was attended by 14 senior executives, CEOs and industry leaders from across the world. Renowned strategic adviser Chris Debner, of Strategic Global Mobility Advisory who was invited to shake participants out of their comfort zone recounts the event I CHRIS DEBNER, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF STRATEGIC GLOBAL MOBILITY ADVISORY nspiration is one of my passions: to inspire and to be inspired. Up on Axalp, a resort 1,535m above the town of Brienz in Switzerland, there was not only wonderfully inspiring scenery, but also a great international group of leaders from the moving industry who wanted to be inspired and, in turn, inspired me. The objective of the day was to create a better understanding of the current and future trends in HR and mobility, and to identify the impact on clients changing needs and their organisations. Also, we identified ways to become more agile, proactive, and how to future-proof our businesses. The morning and part of the afternoon was spent discussing trends and their impact, such as: the WHAT DID OUR STUDENTS SAY? It was great as a networking event and good to share experiences with colleagues from around the world. Ernst, John and Derek did a great job facilitating this. I liked to hear from others where they see challenges in everyday work. The seminar offered a unique opportunity to meet and exchange with industry leaders on leadership skills, trends and industry challenges. The location and the LiM atmosphere were simply outstanding. The balance, the diversity, and the sheer fun of these activities simply took the seminar to the top! Well done! A fantastic opportunity and platform to exchange on this topic. It is the interactivity and exchange of respective experiences within the small group that makes the difference. Overall, a fantastic and highly recommended experience. The sheer value of meeting new people from the industry and being able to bond, trust and share both personal and professional experiences is priceless. Well done FIDI! Blown away by the whole thing, probably the best Association thing I have ever attended. WW W. F I D I. We then formed three groups to work on practical business cases for change, which were presented back to the whole group. The rest of the afternoon was spent discussing the need for agility and innovation, and, finally, we exchanged our views on aspects such as marketing and selling, touching on procurement functions, buyers considerations and our relationships with relocation management companies. John Seal, from Hilldrup International, Washington DC, and Derek Duffy, President of Armstrong International Movers Ltd and FIDI Board member, facilitated the LiM forum, and organised outdoor teambuilding activities to help the participants assess and improve their leadership potential. It was a great experience and an inspiration to work with FIDI and the leaders in a wonderful environment such as the Axalp. I am grateful to FIDI for giving me this opportunity to share my expertise with their leaders, and would be happy to visit Axalp again anytime. BOOK YOUR 2020 PLACE!
